In essence, the term 'bulky goods retailing' refers to the merchandising of goods that are bulky.
Bulky goods retail categories include furniture, whitegoods, electrical equipment, bedding and manchester, lighting, automotive parts, camping and outdoor equipment, tools, building materials and DIY and homemaker products.
Membership of the Bulky Goods Retailers Association Limited includes some of the best-known retail names and brands in the country. Retailers like IKEA, Freedom Furniture, Beacon Lighting, Spotlight, Supercheap Auto, Fantastic Furniture, Barbeques Galore, Harvey Norman, Forty Winks, OZ Design Furniture, Bunnings and Masters.
The BGRA was established to develop the bulky goods retailing industry within Australia. A major concern for BGRA members is the availability of suitable premises from which bulky goods can be sold.
There are two factors which impact the availability of suitable premises: the recognition of bulky goods zones identified in planning policy, and the varied approach by state governments towards the definition of what constitutes bulky goods premises.
