Our Vision
Our vision is clear
Our vision is clear – to encourage, develop and foster awareness of and relationships within the bulky goods retailing industry in Australia.

The Bulky Goods Retailers Association was established in 1999 as an incorporated association when bulky goods retailing was emerging as a strong and distinct force in Australia’s retail landscape. On 1 July 2008 the BGRA was converted to a company limited by guarantee, an entity better suited to representing the bulky goods industry on an Australian wide basis.

Today the BGRA is regarded as the peak national body representing the interests of bulky goods retailers, owners, developers, agents and service providers in Australia. Our membership consists of some of the nation’s largest and most respected brands and we belong to the fastest growing retail industry in the country.

Today bulky goods retailing accounts for a massive $44.9 billion or over 22.6 per cent of all retail sales in Australia*. Our contribution to employment, economic growth and investment is crucial. This is reinforced by the fact that direct employment by bulky goods retailers exceeds a massive 138,000 people directly and 172,000 people indirectly.

Construction of bulky goods floor space in 2006 exceeded a massive 750,000 square metres*, a record for the industry.

The availability of suitable premises from which the bulky goods retail industry conducts its business is crucial to the continued growth and development of the industry in Australia. However planning laws throughout Australia have failed to keep up with the industry’s development.

In order to maintain the growth in the bulky goods industry in Australia, the BGRA is actively involved in the development of policy, planning and infrastructure, working openly and closely with governments and other stakeholders to ensure future bulky goods retail property developments meet the needs of the bulky goods retailers in Australia and their customers.
